When Windows Vista made its debut in January, 2007, it included a facility called the Windows Sidebar. By default this reserved a strip of display actual property on the right-hand edge of the display. It also served as an engine inside which small instruments, utilities and applications might seem. Windows Vista and Windows 7 each included Sidebar and Desktop Gadget support.
